NEET – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), which is earlier, called All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) is a national-level entrance exam for undergraduate and postgraduate level medical and dental courses admission in private and government medical and dental colleges.

Prior to 2019, NEET was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in partnership with Prometric Testing Pvt. Ltd. which is headquartered in the USA.

But now, the NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) which provides the results to the Doctorate General of Health Services at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

NEET-UG replaced the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) and other individual MBBS Entrance Exams conducted by states or colleges/universities themselves from 2016 onwards.

As per the orders of the Honorable Supreme Court of India, there will be only one entrance exam all over India for Medical and Dental Colleges.

The Colleges will not able to conduct their own medical or dental entrance exams and thus all will grant admission based on NEET scores. The total number of seats offered under NEET is 66000 which are distributed accordingly.
