Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences is a medical college in the Indian state of Karnataka, affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Jayanagar, Bangalore.

History

KIMS was established in 1980 by the Vokkaligara Sangha. The Vokkaligara Sangha took a formal decision on 2.9.1979 to start a medical college from the year 1980–81 and applied for permission to the registrar, Bangalore University.

On 30 November 1980 the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. R Gundu Rao laid the foundation stone of the KIMS and Hospital in the premises of the Sangha and announced the grant of vacant land in Banashankari to be used for the construction of college building and hostels.

Thereafter, the Sangha appointed Dr M Basavaraju, professor of Physiology as the principal on 1 January 1981 and other staff by March 1981 and classes were started regularly from 16 March 1981. Since then 16 March is observed every year as KIMS Day.

The college offers the 5-1/2 year MBBS course. Entrance is through the NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRANCE TEST (NEET-UG) only. Management quota seats are also available.

Postgraduate

The postgraduate degree course is of three-years duration and the postgraduates diploma course two years. The college offers the following: The Silver Jubilee Celebrations of the college was held in 2006. A college building to mark the centenary celebrations of the Vokkaligara Sangha and the Silver Jubilee of KIMS has been built at the Banashankari Campus.

Campus

The college has two campuses. The hospital and clinical departments are on the VV Puram campus while the pre-clinical and para-clinical departments are on the Banashankari campus. Transport between the campuses is provided.

Hostels

There are two hostels, one for each gender, on the Banashankari campus.

Sports

The college has a fully equipped health club with a 10 station multi-gym, two treadmills and steppers and a trained instructor. Indoor games like chess, carrom and table tennis are available.

The college has two intracollegiate sports fests. They are the KPL (KIMS Premiere League)(cricket) and Dinamani Cup (football).

Cultural activities

The college day, Atharva, allows the students to exhibit their talent in activities such as music, dance, mad ad, etc.

KIMS Bangalore Eligibility Criteria for MBBS Entrance

For entrance to MBBS Course at KIMS Bangalore, affiliated to RGUHS Bangalore, candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.
The candidate must have obtained at least 50% marks in the PCB group (40% in the case of SC / ST candidates).
The candidate must have passed in English as a compulsory subject.
The candidate must have completed the age of 17 years on or before the year of MBBS entrance.

KIMS Bangalore MBBS Entrance Exam

Candidates seeking MBBS entrance at KIMS Bangalore must qualify in NEET UG (National Eligibility Entrance Test).
Qualified candidates shall be called for MBBS entrance counselling, conducted by COMEDK, in the order of merit.

Entrance Exams

NEET is a gateway to get entrance in various specializations of UG medical courses. Candidates can also appear in AIIMS and JIPMER entrance exam to get entrance into these institutions and their associated campuses.

Selection Procedure

NEET qualifying candidates can participate in the counselling rounds for entrance in the participating colleges. Candidates can fill their choices for the colleges during the counselling process.

For 85% state quota seats, the state medical authority will conduct the counselling process. It is compulsory for the candidates to appear in the counselling rounds for seat allotment process.

Candidates can confirm their seat by reporting to the assigned college and submit an entrance fee. KIMS Bangalore M.B.B.S. Admission 2023

KIMS Bangalore offers a four and half year M.B.B.S. course along with a compulsory rotary internship of one year. The selection criteria to admit candidates in this course are based on the result of NEET UG , COMEDK UGET, and KCET.

The minimum eligibility criterion to take admission in MBBS requires a candidate to have passed PUC/ 10+2/ with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or a bachelor’s degree in medical sciences with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate.
